THE ARMS

  • Inside portion of the arm (humerus and radius bones): can be used alone or in conjunction with foot sweeps for clothesline takedowns. They are also utilized with the biceps to execute a carotid artery sleeper choke or a guillotine choke.

  • Outside portion of the forearm (upper ulna region of the elbow): this is an extremely powerful upper body weapon. Elbow strikes work well when applied against the front, back and sides of the opponent's neck. Other targets include the attacker's face, jaw, solar plexus, sternum, and rib cage. When used to deliver offensive blocks, this area of the elbow can break the knuckles of an oncoming fist.

  • Lower humerus/rear elbow region: this weapon delivers powerful backward elbow strikes to an opponent who is behind you. Targets include the solar plexus, sternum, ribs, neck and face. This weapon can also be executed in a downward manner, a "guillotine' elbow to your opponent's spinal column after he buckles forward following a brutal knee smash to his pubic bone.
(1 )If an attacker grabs your hair from behind, you can (2) drop him with a spinning back elbow smash to his throat .

THE HANDS
  • Fingers: Excellent weapons for stabbing the opponent's eyes or throat. They can be used to grab the attacker for joint manipulations or throws.

  • Thumbs: Used to gouge an assailant's eyes and/or to assist in grabbing maneuvers.

  • "Panther" strike (using the second third and fourth proximal interphalangeal joints): A flat-knuckle strike used to collapse an opponent's trachea (see picture on previous page)

  • First two knuckles of the fist: Incorporated into punches and backfist strikes.

  • Inside ridge of the hand: This area is used to deliver ridgehand strikes to the side of the opponent's neck or jaw.

  • Top of the wrist ("crane wing"): With the hand flexed, this area can smash upward uner the attacker's chin, or strike sideways to his temple or jaw.

  • Palm heel: Can be used to collapse the bridge of the attacker's nose; pushing it up at a 45 degree angle can smash the nasal bone into the frontal lobes of the brain. Palm strikes are also effective against the solar plexus, ribs, kidneys, ears, jaws or temples. The heel of your hand can also be used to jam your opponent's hips to prevent him from throwing you.

  • Hammerfist: this weapon is used in a pummeling manner to strike the opponent's groin, kidneys, nose or temples.

If an attacker grabs you by the throat, respond with a quick palm heel strike to the bridge of his nose and/or collapse his trachea a with a flat knuckle panther strike to his throat.

If being strangled, do not waste precious time attempting to remove his hands. Counter attack by immediately grabbing his head and gouging his eyes out with your thumbs. He will let go of your throat to cradle his injured eyes. Follow up with other vital point attacks, such as a knee smash to his pubic bone, or blow out his knee with a side kick.
